New attempt for TomTom firmware 6

After a failed attempt on July 3rd, today TomTom has made firmware 6 available to the public again. An improved version that should solve all problems.

Many were very dissapointed when TomTom finally released their long-awaited firmware 6.12 to the public, only to pull it again a few hours later. This was done because it soon became apparent that lots of users experienced problems after upgrading to the newest version.

Some intense troubleshooting has shown that some SD-card brands were at the base of the problem. So TomTom has used the last two weeks to make some modifications to their software, and this has resulted in the new firmware version 6.14, which is now available as a free download by means of TomTom's HOME desktop application.

New and expanded
Version 6 has lots of new features, and also existing features were expanded and/or improved. A lot of those additions and improvements were made in the PLUS software department. So this means that you will need a GO which is Bluetooth compatible, a GPRS compatible mobile phone and the newest TeleAtlas maps in order to be able to make use of some of the new features. Unfortunately, this immediately rules out the GO Classic, since this device has no Bluetooth chip. Version 6.11 will still run on the unit, but not all new features will be available to the user.

For an overview of all new features and a table with the requirements, we refer to our software special 'TomTom 6 & HOME: Innovations galore'.

Installation
The new software is suitable for all TomTom PND's (GO Classic, GO 300/500/700, ONE and RIDER) and will be available ONLY via the HOME desktop application. Users of HOME (downloadable HERE) only need to connect their PND to their computer, after which the program will check for content updates. The new software (called 'TomTom application for GO, ONE and RIDER') may then be downloaded and will be installed automatically onto the connected device.

Version 6.14 is not meant for the new TomTom GO x10 series. The software will work on those devices as well, but it's 100% identical to the 6.11 version that became available some time ago, so there's not much point to installing it. The only difference is that 6.14 is also backwards compatible with older maps and user settings, that's all. So GO 510, GO 719 and GO 910 owners will not receive an update notification in HOME.

If you want to share your experiences, or if you've got questions about the new TomTom 6 application, you can always post about it on our forum, more in particular into TomTom's Firmware section.

Are there any benefits on installing this update 6.14 if i have already successfully installed the 6.12 update before it was pulled?

Cheers

Well, launched TomTome Home and it asked to download a newer version of the Home app. Downloaded and installed the new version, launched it and connected the 700. Up pops an alert that 6.14 is available and so I start downloading it. It gets about 20% of the way through the download and then the application crashes & quits. Anyone got a direct download for this anywhere? Thanks!

Hey peeps,

Installed 6 without a hitch.

I still think framerates are slightly down from v5.450 on the ONE (might purchase a faster SD card) and the colours are washed out. Not sure why, however, it works - i'll see how it goes with navigation.

Hi All

It says at the top in the news article
"the newest TeleAtlas maps in order to be able to make use of some of the new features"

How do I get the newest TeleAtlas maps?

What version do I have, what version is new?

I installed this latest firmware on my t700 and everything is working fine.

Well done tomtom.
