Immediately after the release of the first TomTom GO 510, 710 and 910 units, lots of problems were reported with the car mount. And, until now, TomTom seemed unable to offer a solution. But no more: only a few moments ago, TomTom has let us know that they've started a trade-in action. Anyone who experiences problems with his or her car mount may now order a new one for free.
This is the official statement as we have received it from TomTom:
"TomTom has determined that a limited number of Windscreen Docks included with the initial shipments of the TomTom GO 910, TomTom GO 710 and TomTom GO 510 do not perform to the standards we set for our products. These mounts can result in a loose power connection or in the device drooping.
As a customer-oriented organisation, we take feedback from our customers very seriously. As a result, we have made a number of modifications to the Windscreen Dock to make sure it lives up to customers' expectations.
Please advise customers to go to www.tomtom.com/newdock, where they can order a new Windscreen Dock by entering the serial number of their TomTom GO device and a shipping address. We will ship a new Windscreen Dock to them within ten working days.
We advise customers that have any further queries, problems or concerns to contact the TomTom Customer Support department."
The new mount will be shipped to you absolutely free of charge (also NO shipping charges!). You'll need to enter the serial number of your GO unit and your full address on the forementioned web page, and the new mount will then be shipped to you within ten working days. Of course, only one new mount can be ordered per GO unit.

Why has it taken them so long to do this, and why is an additional mount still not available for purchase?

They probably won't have any to spare!

Well it's worth a try as my new 910 is already drooping. Other than that I love it to bits.

I started having Power connections problems with mine 3 days after I bought it. I called TomTom Customer Support in the US and was told one would be ordered for me. I received a voice mail on Monday from a TomTom Customer Support rep telling me that my mount was on order but it was back ordered 6 to 8 weeks.

Personally, I find the extra "tongue" on the new mount really annoying and it seems to make it much harder to attach and detach the TomTom. I've gone back to using my old mount and I will fix the drooping problem another way.

More "tongue", as the actress said to the bishop!!!

Does the extra "tongue" keep the unit from vibrating or shaking on the mount?

Yeah, I haven't really expirienced the "droop" but it's a right pain for the shaking and vibrating

Has anyone recieved their replacement mont yet or will it be as prev mentioned 6-8 weeks?

i didn't read anywhere that you have to send the original back. Does that mean you end up with a "spare"? (even though the power connector isn't perfect)
I rang Tomtom last week a few days before they publically said about replacing new ones, arrived withing 3 days DHL

That is correct - they do not ask for the original unit to be returned.
