New headquarters for TomTom

The Rembrandtsquare; one of the most important nightlife centers of Amsterdam, and since a few weeks also a new home for TomTom.

TomTom GO owners can rest assured: things are going very well with their favourite navigational solution. So well even that the location at the Spuistraat had rapidly become too crowded to remain comfortable for the so fast-growing TomTom staff.

So the hunt for a new and especially roomier location began, and, as we've reported earlier, was found at the Rembrandtsquare in the Dutch capital Amsterdam.

Customer Support
The fastest growing TomTom department is without a doubt the Customer Support. You know, the place where all the men and women reside that respond to all your telephone calls and e-mails. And there are a LOT of those: currently about 30.000 e-mails and 10.000 telephone calls a month! To be able to tackle all those questions with success, there are currently 44 support employees and that number just keeps on growing. To give you an idea: not even a year ago there were 'only' 15 support employees!

But besides the support department, all other departments experienced a growth as well so TomTom ran out of space very quickly: they needed to go out on a hunt for a bigger location. That hunt didn't take long and now all the 190 TomTom employees have found a new home in the beautiful new office building located at the Rembrandtsquare. It's very big, so TomTom doesn't have to worry about the side effects of expansion for quite a while to come...

Impression
YourNAV.com visited their new offices on a cold and windy Wednesday in February. And we made the following photoshoot there.

The photo's above show, from left to right:

  • The entrance of the building located on the corner of the Rembrandtsquare and Amstelstraat.

  • Ok, so no misunderstandings there...

  • The lobby downstairs. Not quite decorated yet, apart from this striking couch!

  • Upward look from the lobby. A lot of light!

  • The customer support department can breathe again...

  • No! This isn't staged! So yes, they DO know of our existence!

  • The Italian corner.

  • A room with a view!

  • Height-adjustable desk at the customer support department.

  • Not all floors are quite done yet ;-)

  • Don't you just LOVE that view?

The experience I have had so far with these "support" staff leaves much to be desired.

For my 910 I emailed from the web page when the speed camera POI fused to download. Upon following their instructions to the letter I was left without my original Europe map file or anything else on "Home" or the 910 device. With a response turnover of over 3 days I had to purchase a map of GB and Ir to keep me going. (The backup made from"Home" was corrupt BTW) I ask a question "How can I restore my maps"? I get an answer using the corrupt backup..I ask again...after many days silence I find the question is closed? Its like banging my head against a brick wall. The maps and speed cameras are no longer shown on my account and trying to update the cameras I have the message "your subscription has expired"...despite purchasing a few weeks ago!

Other questions regarding connecting my Nokia 6600 to receive traffic reports were made....I am still unable to connect after over a year.

Perhaps I have upset them with my robust comments that were borne of complete despair....either way I seem to be blackballed and left with a device costing over £300 that has no maps or speed cameras.

You may imagine I am not best pleased with these people!
