Starting today, TomTom is offering new map material for all their devices at a reduced price. They are releasing these maps under the version number 7.10, and the material is based on Tele Atlas' July release (2007.7).
Just like with former updates, these maps are only for sale as a direct download, and are not available in the shops as a separate DVD, CD or SD update. Installation of these new maps is very simple through TomTom's website or via TomTom HOME.
Offer
Just before the Christmas season, TomTom has lowered their prices considerably. A new version of the European region map has dropped from ¤ 59.95 to ¤ 39.95, and sometimes the price cuts are even bigger. The prices which are listed below are valid unit 31st January 2008.
| | Size (MB) | Old price (¤) | New price (¤) |
| 1 region Europe | Various | 59,95 | 39,95 |
| Eastern Europe * | 120 | 59,95 | 39,95 |
| Western Europe | 1.743 | 99,95 | 49,95 |
| Western and Central Europe ** | 1.988 | 109,95 | 59,95 |
| North America | 1.723 | 109,95 | 49,95 |
| Australia | 119 | 199,95 | 89,95 |
| South Africa | 53 | 99,95 | 49,95 |
* Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
** Extra countries compared to Western-Europe: Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
At this moment we have no information on what actually has been added to the maps. We hope to be able to tell more about this soon. Also note that the reported map sizes in MB's might differ between devices: maps for devices that support text-to-speech are always larger in size.
Recent
With this update, TomTom is using their 'Guaranteed most recent map' service for users who have recently purchased an 'old' map. These users will be offered the opportunity to download the new version of the map for free. This new service is meant for all TomTom devices which are currently sold with NavCore7, like the GO 720 and the GO 920 later this year.
If the map on the purchased unit is not the most recent version available for TomTom, the user will be offered a free version of the newer map. This is also the case when TomTom will release a new map update within 30 days after the first use of the device. This is explained in more detail on TomTom's website and on the voucher which is supplied with every new unit in the box.
Download
These new maps are also available through the map shop on TomTom's website, where they can be purchased in four easy steps.
Users of TomTom HOME need to select '
Buy Maps'. In HOME 2 you need to select '
Add Maps, Traffic info, Voices etc.', followed by '
maps'.

Is is just me?
In Home you can buy maps ... but it does not tell you what version you are purchasing.
I would not want to buy something I already have.

How do I buy the v7 North America maps? Whenever I try with Tomtom home v2, I get this message at checkout:
We do not know your complete account details. Please fill in all your personal details in the form. When you enter a company name, be sure to also enter a valid VAT number.
What "form"? Where do I enter VAT info? I'm from Canada and have no VAT number so how the hell do I work this??
Furthermore, I cannot buy a map from Tomtom.com because the Tomtom "store" gives this message:
The TomTom Map Store is closed while we're updating and improving it. Our apologies for the inconvenience. Please check back soon!
It's said that for months now.
I just want the latest maps!!! Why is this so hard to do?
-Andy.

Maps.. Mmmm I had UK before I upgraded to Nav 7 ( I have a TT one " classic " )...
So I went from 610 to 660.. ( eventually ) ... had to down load it from the web site , as HOME ( new version ) was not working properly.
So I had 660.. fab ....
but then I looked on HOME and it said there was a version 710 of UK...
I asked HOME for the best updated maps .. but still got 660..
I then had to pay 30 Quid ( once in nearly two yaers is not bad !! ) for the new map . which I now have .. and map share etc..
BUT why did I have to pay ???????????????????

Thank you for your reply. I do not have a company name in that field yet I still get the error. I've checked the profile over and over and changed various fields but still get this error. It's very frustrating that the error message is not more specific as to what exactly the problem is!
I have purchased and downloaded map v710.1561 to my TomTom520 which I purchased in Aug 2007.
I was disappointed with the maps that were initially in the TomTom 520, as they were full of mistakes like missing mini roundabouts and junctions being wrong.
In fact my old TomTom G0500's original maps were better than the just released maps in the TomTom 520.
However with the v710 download the disappointing mistakes are gone, so I am delighted, but pity the maps couldn't have been accurate from start.

Surprised you've seen any mini-roundabouts. I thought it was Tele Atlas' policy not to put them on the maps at all.
I have the TTG 910 with map version 6.02 which I would really like to update. The new version is 7.10 so hopefully should be better.
I am running 6.525 and home 1.5. Would there be any problems getting the new maps on my tomtom ? I got an email from tomtom giving me a link showing where I can get my new map and all the link goes to is the page explaining how to dl the new map.
When I click on download your updates all I find is the software version 6.525 (which I already have installed) and an update on speed cameras which I also have.
Has anyone else had problems getting the new maps from tomtom ? I have been communicating with them for over a week and can't seem to get this resolved.
cheers,
Jo

Happycrafter, I think you need to install the latest version of home to install the 7.10 maps
where do I find the latest version of home ? are there any problems with it ? I am always so worried when I update anything with tomtom as things never seem to work afterwards. I also see there is a new version of navcore though I am not sure what that is.
cheers,
Jo
