First indication of GO 730/930 pricesThe new 2008 TomTom GO generation, which was announced at CeBIT, will most likely become available in the shops this month. Recommended retail prices have still not been officially disclosed, but other sources provide us with a good indication of which prices may be expected.

Three versions
In theory, the new GO's can be shipped in three versions: one without traffic information options, one with RDS/TMC receiver and one with a supplied HD Traffic receiver. Which version will become available in which countries is still not clear, but what is clear is that the HD Traffic version will for now only be sold in the Netherlands, since the new TomTom service is not yet operational in other countries.

We believe the 'basic' GO 930 (with European, US and Canadian maps) and 730 (European maps only) will be sold for ¤ 449 and ¤ 399. The TMC version usually costs about ¤ 50 more, so this means these devices will cost ¤ 499 (GO 930 Traffic) and ¤ 449 (GO 730 Traffic).

Harder
Predicting the price of the HD Traffic versions is a bit harder. We can use the accessory price of the HD Traffic receiver for the GO x20 series, which is currently ¤ 99.95, but that price also includes a map update which is not necessary for the x30 series. This means that, if TomTom really intends to promote the HD Traffic service, the prices of the HD units could be equal to the prices of the TMC units: ¤ 499 (GO 930 Traffic) and ¤ 449 (GO 730 Traffic). A slightly higher price can't be excluded of course.

Also be aware the amounts mentioned are introductory prices. We have no doubt that lower prices will be available real soon, especially in the many online shops.

NavCore 8
The GO 930 and 730 are identical in hardware to the previous generation, the GO 920 and 720. They are shipped with TomTom's newest navigational software, NavCore 8, of which the most important novelties are Traffic Lane Assistance, IQ Routes and increased Map Share options.

Interesting to compare the expected prices in the USA.

http://www.gpsreview.net/new-tomtom-models-730-and-930/

The 730 will be $450. The 730T with traffic will be $500. Step up to the 930 for $500, and the 930T with traffic for $550.

At todays exchange rate the US$ is worth £0.5049. Thus the 930T should cost £277.69 in the USA ,without sales tax. The average sales tax is about 8%, so a typical selling price in the USA would be about £300.

Just be aware that the Pixmania devices appear to be shipping out with a French setup, this means no UK Text To Speech files on the device or with the device on a disk, also there are problems reported with the navigate to spoken address function (probably as a direct result of the non UK specific devices they are selling)

I would wait a week or two to be honest and get the UK version (assuming you are UK based that is), it is not worth the hastle of trying to get this working as intended messing around with files off other (earlier devices) as has been tried and reported elsewhere - Mike

It looks like being a program error, which might be solved by contacting TomTom Support.

FNAC Portugal are now listing the 730 at ¤399 (£316 at today's exchange rate).

I will not be tempted.

Colin

(720 still not working as it should).
