Today, TomTom started to offer new map material for all their navigational units. The company has released maps under version number 8.05 for GO x30 owners and 7.20 for the owners of all other devices. The mapping material for both is based on the January release (2008.1) of map supplier Tele Atlas.
As with the previous update, the mapping material is only for sale as a direct download from TomTom's servers, so these maps will not be available on DVD, CD or SD in any (online) shops. The download of such large files can sometimes take a very long time, but once complete, installation of the new maps should be very simple via TomTom's free desktop application HOME.
8.05-maps
The map update for the recently released GO x30 series can be used as a replacement of the 8.00 map version shipped with the unit. Of course, this new map also supports all the new NavCore 8 functionality such as IQ Routes and Advanced Lane Guidance.
With their aptly-named 'Latest map guarantee', TomTom offers a free update to the latest maps available, if new maps get released within 30 days of the purchase of your device. Since the GO x30 model has only been made available very recently, we can imagine every x30 owner will be entitled to this free upgrade.
7.20-maps
For devices which still use NavCore 7 software (all TomTom devices except the x30 series), TomTom has released new 7.20 maps. These maps are based on the same raw mapping data but don't contain the extra new functions mentioned above. However, they are also a fair bit cheaper than the v8 versions. Please bear in mind though, that you'll need the v8 maps to be able to use these new features if and when NavCore 8 becomes available for other TomTom devices in the future. To date, TomTom has not released any information about whether this upgrade for non-x30 devices will ever happen or not…
Other news:

March 2
Interestingly, the 520 maps don't have IQ routes but the 530 does. I thought we could all have these.
But if you could just upgrade your 520, no-one would buy a 530, would they ?

If I am not mistaken, you can download new maps 8.05 for your brand new GO x30 only as SEPARATED two maps -Western
and Central Europe...bad joke?
The map has been called 'Western and Central Europe' for some time now, it should still be all one map unless anyone knows differently.

OK, it seems that 'Western and Central Europe' is now called just 'Western Europe' it covers the same countries.
'Eastern Europe' is an expansion of the previously poorly covered 'former Eastern Block' countries.Ignore this post.

OK sorry, the list I looked at didn't contain W & C Europe.
Just select the map you do want rather than the 'recommended' one.

Not as easy as that....
Maps are now device specific, and sure enough, it seems there ISN'T a v8 Western and Central Europe!
For Go 720: Map of Western & Central Europe v7.20

For Go 930:
Map of Western Europe v8.05

...or Map of Eastern Europe v8.05

Where's the middle bit!

They seem to have made a complete hash of the map descriptions....
This is what is quoted on their site:
TomTom GO 930 Traffic
TomTom’s premium model comes with the latest seamless maps of 35 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, USA, Canada and Russia stored on the internal memory.
TomTom GO 730 and GO 730 Traffic
The maps on the TomTom GO 730 and GO 730 Traffic have been expanded to include 31 countries in Western & Eastern Europe.
Yet Andy's post shows different???

Maybe, maybe not!
Those are for the maps available to download, no mention of the maps supplied on the units themselves.
There's a map of the stated coverage for the maps installed on the Go930
HERE, and that seems to cover the whole of central Europe.

Yeah, but these are the
v805 maps, that they are presumably offering everyone as updates for their shiny new 930s?
Or I did hear somewhere that they are not offering a "Latest map guarantee on the Go930 units?

"Home" reports that latest map guarantee does not apply to maps installed on my unit.
