Want to buy some new maps for your TomTom device before you go on holiday? TomTom now introduces their 'Summer Sales', making all this a whole lot cheaper since they now offer up to 30% discount on all the newest maps for the GO, ONE and RIDER until the 30th July 2008. The maps can be downloaded through TomTom HOME or via the MapShop on the TomTom website.

This offer is valid on all maps which have been available since the beginning of May this year. See our news post 'TomTom offers new maps for download' for more info on this subject. The new maps carry version number 8.05 (Including IQ Routes and Lane Guide Assistant) for GO x30 owners and 7.20 for all other devices. The mapping material is based on the Tele Atlas 2008.1 release of last January.

Download
The new maps are available for download via TomTom's MapShop, which you can find on the TomTom website. It takes only four easy steps to select the right map for your device.

TomTom HOME users need to select the following icons on the main menu: 'Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc.', followed by 'Maps'.

This 30% discount is not valid for NAVIGATOR 6 maps and maps of Australia and New Zealand.

» Update ¦ June 19, 2008 - 19:59 h:
Edited the original text because it had become clear not all maps have a 30% discount, but only some do. Therefor: up to 30% discount.

I don't believe it's still possible to purchase maps that are not meant for your device. So it won't be possible for x20 owners to purchase x30 maps.

I don't think the long-awaited NC8 update will happen in August. My bet is in autumn somewhere, when the holiday season has ended.

Please read the news article correctly before you purchase:

The new maps carry version number 8.05 (Including IQ Routes and Lane Guide Assistant) for GO x30 owners and 7.20 for all other devices.

These are NOT NEW v8 maps for the GO 720!

Also the article SHOULD mention that we can expect new map version release from TomTom early August, so the discount should be considered as 'sale' before new maps will be released, so those who want to buy wont be disappointed that the new version will be released shortly after they bought what was supposed to be the latest map.

Mod Edit (Lee): I think you mean "disappointed" not "disappeared" - I've correct the typo for you!

You think so??
That would be daft on their behalf if it was the case - after all - it appears that loads of x20 users are dying to get their hands on the new features... and what better time to try them out but when you're on holiday bombing down the motorway...

And it's not 30%! It's up to 30% and we all know what that means to TT. It's 25% on the Western Europe 8.05 map - £60 instead of £80.

Isn't it even worse?
£79.95 down to £59.95 for the WE v8.05 means £20 off... That's TWENTY percent off, not twenty five?

W+CE v7.20 is £74.95 down to £59.95, that' s 20% as well.

Here we go again! Try to spot the ONE map with anything like 30% off! angry.gif

Your information is incorrect - I just headed over to TomTom to buy the Western Europe map, and it's only been reduced from £59.95 to £49.95 (~18%). So, it's still not worth it, especially if the maps are due to be upgraded in August.

BTW - With TT's 30-day map guarantee, if you buy the discounted maps just before the offer finishes at end of July, and new ones come out in August, do you get a free upgrade?

Just a thought..

Alright - 'up to 30%' is what you said. Still it's a bit misleading, and it's definitely NOT a big enough discount to make it worth buying 'old' maps over the later ones in the 2nd half of the year.

I have tried this and it might make the new maps a worth while investment, I have a 520 & just downloaded the re released navcore 8. gone to the tomtom shop and sais i have a 530t and paid for the latest uk map. gone back into tomtom home & hey presto it has downloaded & installed without any issues so x20's can run x30 maps. Also the new features intelli routes etc also work
