A new version of TomTom's desktop application HOME is available. This new version carries the release number 2.4, and it's automatically downloaded and installed after an older HOME version is run.
At first sight the new HOME brings little by way of new features. But there are a few nice new things added which are not obvious at first sight.
Map Share
A few modifications have been made to Map Share. Now it is possible to tell HOME which map adaptations you want to receive by entering a security level. The Map Share status indicator is also supposed to be more accurate now.
For future owners of the new GO x40 series, the ability has been added to share Home/Favourites/Buddy symbols and Start/Stop sounds.
Other news is that the 'Latest Map Guarantee' is now checked automatically, HOME content which was downloaded earlier via HOME can now be removed from your computer and there is also a new option:
HOME themes. At the moment of writing there are no updates available for that last new option, so we cannot say exactly yet what this will bring for TomTom users.
Map Update
A more substantial new feature is the HOME support for TomTom's new Map Update service. This enables the possibility of subscribing to map updates. This means you pay a certain amount of money upfront which entitles you to receive a maximum of four new map updates per year.
Prices of this new service of course differ depending on the area you're interested in, but you will receive a discount which is dependent on the age of your current map. This discount ranges from 50% (if your map is older than 12 months) to 85% (if your map is only between three to six months).
Here's a complete list of all the given discounts:
- Map on device is younger than 3 months: free update
- Map on device is between 3 and 6 months old: ± 85% discount
- Map on device is between 6 and 9 months old: ± 75% discount
- Map on device is between 9 and 12 months old: ± 60% discount
- Map on devices is older than 12 months: ± 50% discount

Please help a newbie out... these discounts are too good to be true so I have upgraded the software but see no discount mentioned when I look at the ‘add maps’ area. I have 4 maps that came included with the unit... Go930... and would love to save 50% as 2 of the 4 maps are over 50 weeks old already *good on ya TT*! Any help would be appreciated.

Give TomTom support a call. They are the only ones who can help you with an issue like that.

I've been told that it only works on the map that you last used, so you might need to go to "Operate my Go" to switch maps. Yes, I know it sounds stupid, but it wouldn't actually surprise me.

Hi All,
Just downloaded Home 2.4 and have lost all my map share updates , now shows zero. When I go into map share preferences it does not list any countries. My trust preferences are set at medium but even if I choose low it does not offer me any updates even when I re-put my 930go into its cradle.
Any advise much appreciated.

All went well with my download. I also bought the latest map for my 520, this also installed without a hitch and appears to be working without any problems with Home 2.4

Yes same here. See my post
here and kwc's excellent reply, which says it is a problem at "their" end, to be fixed (hopefully!) next week.

I would stay right where you are with v2.3 for now!
As mentioned above (and all over the place!) Home v2.4 is deleting people's Mapshare corrections.
V2.3 is fine for downloading other stuff, but Mapshare is not working for a week or so anyway
You should be using Windows Explorer, NOT Home, to make the all-important backups of your system.
A HUGE reminder - if you haven't made a backup yet, PLEASE do it now. See
HERE for instructions.

Not sure if this is anything new or relevant...
...But TT Home just advised me there was a new update (incremental only) today (09/10/08), from
2.4 build 092 I think it was, now to
2.4 build 104Not sure if this fixes the MapShare issue or anything else, as I am just installing it now as we speak.

I've got 2.4.0.104 too. Haven't noticed any difference except it is even more crap than usual.
first it seems to have got stuck thinking I've just updated software, because
every time I log in it flashes up a new window telling me to disconnect then reconnect. Boring.
Plus it is now trying to "update me" to
v6 maps and postcodes that I threw away 2-3 YEARS ago!
I don't think it will sort out Mapshare downloads, we know for certain now that it will take TomTom throwing a big switch at their end to get it back. But it might be something they need to have in place for the downloads to work when they do!

Well I thought all the problems had been resolved - That'll teach me to read more threads!
Not quite sure what it has done to my GO yet, but here's a snapshot of what it offered and what didn't work...

Strange thing is my Mapshare Indicator says this:
[attachment=1652:untitled1.JPG]
Yet the other day it showed 238523 - so although it has given me another 16,000 (total of over 50,000 updates in 3 days) it still thinks I'm 20 weeks out of date! Useless!!!!
Oh, and still doesn't show any Countries in the list or POI's??!!
Just done another update and it gave me the same 32mb but this time installation was succesful - my counter now shows Map up to date with 252088 corrections - strangely less than yesterday!!??
