TomTom lorry navigation availableTomTom WORK, TomTom's Business-to-Business division, let us know that the lorry navigation function which was announced at the end of this September is now immediately available. This specific solution contains route information for trucks with which relevant data on low bridges and the maximum weight restrictions are included.

Adapted
TomTom WORK lorry navigation contains adapted navigational software which stores the dimensions and the weight of the lorry it's used with and takes this information into account. Because of these extra parameters in the supplied map material, lorries are not navigated through residential areas or narrow roads, and also bridges with a weight limitation or tunnels and viaducts with a height restriction on the plotted route. For this feature to work, lorry drivers merely need to enter the dimensions, and the total weight of their lorry into the unit. The software does the rest. Of course the system also takes the specific maximum speeds of lorries into account in calculating as realistic as possible a destination time.

"We continue to stay committed to truck navigation and we look forward to bringing additional TomTom technology and mapping to truckers in the near future", says Thomas Becher, Commercial Director of TomTom WORK.

Price & availability
The solution is provided as an optional accessory on SD card, to make upgrading as low cost as possible. The SD card comes with maps of Central and Western Europe, and truck navigation is available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Benelux and the UK.

The solution is available through TomTom WORK partners at a price of 119 GBP (excl. VAT).

I can just see it now, signs erected by villagers warning Lorry's not to take short cuts being changed to "Whats up haven't you got a TomTom"

If and when I can afford this Truck navigation, will it work on my 700, how do I get it on there and who are these Tom Tom Work Partners who are the only ones supplying this, it seems. ?
If there's easy answers, sorry I have missed them. mellow.gif

I have enough room to have it on my new hard drive (8GB) so maybe I could have that and my original on at the same time and switch between the two ? Anyway, I can't afford that sort of money for a while yet so wills see what happens. Cheers.
