New TomTom maps availableTomTom is now offering new map material for all their navigational systems. These maps are being released under version number 8.45.

The material is based on the Tele Atlas December release (version 2009.12). In this release, just like with the former release, they used end-user feedback to determine changes in the road grid. This feedback had been offered by TomTom users, both in Europe and North America, who have reported errors or alterations in the map material via TomTom's Map Share technology.

Download
Just like previous updates the map material is also only for sale through direct download. This means the maps are not available through DVD, CD or SD, or available in any shop. Instead, installation of the new map material is very simple via TomTom HOME.

The price of the new maps can be found on TomTom's site or in HOME. Users who have subscribed to TomTom's Map update service will be offered the new maps automatically in HOME the moment they connect their device to their computer.

Guarantee
Same as before, TomTom is again offering the so-called "Latest Map Guarantee". This means that if within 30 days after activating your Unit, new maps become available, they will be offered to you for free. So it might be worth checking your receipt and just to make sure click 'Tools' then 'Latest Map Guarantee' in HOME.

-> to the TomTom map shop.

Restored though by reinstalling old Mapsettings.cfg file.

from what I've heard today, it is very variable whether your old MapSettings.cfg file will work or send the unit into an infinite re-boot loop. Presumably dependant on your specific software/map combination.

If it gives problems, don't forget to try the "Home" trick before you give up.

Basically, run the "Operate my Device" emulator in Home and add a new Favourite while there. That seems to re-write the file format so it works normally from then on.

Tried using the Latest Map Guarantee on my 5 day old 930T, but only being offered 8.40 - NOT 8.45.

Is there a secret handshake to getting 8.45 pleasantry.gif

I will pop a question to TomTom if I get no joy after clearing cookies etc I think.

I bought a 930 and used my LMG a couple of weeks ago, does that mean I cannot use it again even though I'm still within 30 days?

Will Tomtom transfer your yearly subscription to a different device? The unit I purchased my subscription for was stolen and I'm curious if any of you have transferred your subscription to a different devcie for whatever reason.

Thanks,
Geo

Afraid not. The LMG is a once-only offer. That's why we always suggest you:
i. update the software before running the LMG
ii. wait until about day 28 before using the LMG

I wouldn't fret too much though. There are usually very few noticeable differences between successive map versions.

Yes they will, if you ask them nicely.
In fact I've just seen someone report that just a few minutes ago in a post on another forum.
QUOTE i left my TT910 in view whilst parked at home overnight and it was removed via two smashed side windows by some fine citizen !
I have just replaced with a 930T and good old TomTom customer services agreed to transfer my map update service to my new device.
Not that I need it, as a PGPSW user, they also added a one-time safety camera download

Nice to hear a GOOD report once in a while!

Thanks for the reply, Andy.

I'm on hold with Tomtom right now about the subscription so I'll see how that goes. I'm not too worried about the LMG as my unit came with maps a couple of years old and I was happy to upgrade immediately. If they give me a problem for some reason, I'll just stick with the map I have now, I'm sure the changes aren't that significant for me anyways. I corrected about 15 things that I'm sure I'll have to correct again with a new map. smile.gif

Funny as it is, it was reported in another list that for the first time ALG and RV work on the major thoroughfare through
Toronto, the 401.
20 months ago it worked perfectly in the UK.
Well, when you live in the colonies ...

Well, I was on hold way too long, I'll give them a call back tomorrow. Anyway, ALG works great around where I live so far. Worked well in Columbus, Ohio too.

Probably a silly question, but would it be worth removing the old MapSettings.cfg file before updating to a new map?

Not worth removing it, as it will either get copied across and will work, or it will get overwritten during the update anyway.

But certainly worth making a copy of it, then at least you have the option of TRYING to replace it, if you need to.

Well, tried to get my map update service switched to my new device and was told that it is non-transferrable. sad.gif I'll probably try again later though.

There was a TV programme a while back about the fact that people now have quite expensive software on various devices, but insurance companies only insure the physical devices. You could lose a lot of valuable applications. So firstly I think that TT are not behaving well in rejecting you, but secondly you might try claiming from insurance for an up to date map subscription?

To my mind, this is one of the most infuriating thing about TT customer service. There seems to be no consistency - the results you get depend entirely on which representative you get to speak to. dry.gif
