Up until now, the LIVE services were strictly reserved for the expensive GO x40 LIVE models. No more.Soon, TomTom will make these services also available to their mid-range products. Before the end of the month, there will be an XL LIVE IQ Routes available which will be able to use all the LIVE services, including HD Traffic and Google Search.
SIM card
The XL LIVE hardly differs from the XL IQ Routes which was introduced last March. The newest TomTom family member features a 4.3 inch touch screen and is shipped with the Tele Atlas mapping material of 42 European countries. The main difference is the integration of a SIM card slot which makes the device suitable for TomTom's LIVE services. These services contain, amongst others, HD Traffic (real-time traffic information on motorways and secondary roads) Safety Warnings (fixed and mobile safety cameras), Petrol Prices (the cheapest petrol station on or nearby your route) and Local Search (searching for local shops and companies with the aid of Google).Border Crossing
With the introduction of the XL LIVE, TomTom has another nice novelty to share: up to now, the TomTom LIVE services only worked in the country where the SatNav was bought. From now on these services also work abroad. This means you'll be able to use the LIVE services in all LIVE countries (like Germany, Holland and France), at no optional cost compared to the current tariffs. For more information on this, please read our other news item: 'TomTom LIVE crosses the border'.
The TomTom XL LIVE IQ Routes edition will become available before the end of the month, for the price of £ 249.99. This price includes the first three months of LIVE subscription. After this period, the LIVE service will cost you £ 7.99 / month.
