TomTom: Holiday Discount on mapsWant to buy some new maps for your TomTom device before you go on holiday? TomTom now introduces their 'Summer Sales', making all this a whole lot cheaper since they now offer up to 25% discount on selected maps for the GO, ONE and RIDER. The maps can be downloaded through the MapShop on the TomTom website.

This offer is valid on selected maps which have been available since the beginning of May 18th of this year. See our news post 'New TomTom maps available' for more info on this subject. The new maps carry version number 8.30 and the mapping material is based on the Tele Atlas 2009.1 release of last January.

Download
The new maps are available for download via TomTom's MapShop, which you can find on the TomTom website. It takes only four easy steps to select the right map for your device.

TomTom HOME users need to select the 'Add Map' icon on the main menu.

Hi forum,

Can anybody see any issues with buying maps from overseas TomTom stores. The reason behind the request is to take benefit of various discounts. This 'summer' discount (it is winter down under) would allow me to purchase the current Australian map for £45 (AUS$90) if I purchase from the TomTom UK site. The same map from the TomTom Aust site would cost me £65 (AUS$130). Now even allowing for the overseas conversion fees charged by credit card companies, I would still be considerably better off buying from the UK site.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I may be wrong, but I think when you buy the maps you have to log in - when you log in, it "knows where you are" and will direct you through the correct Country Site.

End of the day it's the same map - so wouldn't hurt to try.

Edit
Thought I'd try it...

Went to TT site - chose Australia from the right hand side as my Country
Went to buy Map of Oz
Asked to Log In and got told off as I was registered on the UK site and would be transferred...
UNLESS

It does allow you to create an account on that site - so i did... but then it asks for a billing address in Australia - which I don't have!

So I made one up!

My name is Ozzy Jon
I live at 2546 kangaroo Lane
Sydney, 1234, Australia

It then gets you through to the payment page - and I reckon thats where you'll fall down as it won't recognise the billing address.
Obviously I didn't go that far, but if you fancy having a go - the worst it can do is decline the payment because you don't live here!!

I haven't tried it, but would it work if you logged in via one of the anonymiser website proxies?

Possibly, but it's not picking you up on the IP, it's your actual log in. It knows which Country you are registered with and wants to direct you there...
