Had to be a catch hey....
Maybe sales of units is drying up in the USA and they think this'll kick start it. Interesting one to watch to see if it rolls out. --------------------

The announcement is rather vague as to what units qualify. Are free updates only available to new units bought after roll-out of the program 2Q10 or available to previous buyers as well? I just bought my Rider 2 last month!

From what I've heard, it is currently only intended for purchasers of certain new models, where a price premium will be added to pay for it.
A decision has not been made whether to extend the system to owners of other devices (but it would be at a price) So far it is only mooted for the US market and there have been no hints of it ever being made available in the UK, Europe or anywhere else. |

Thanks Andy, I suspect you are right. I'd only had my Rider 2 about 10 days when this was announced. TomTom Customer Service responded to my inquiry about it that they do not have "details" on the program and to stayed tuned to the newsletter.
