Hi everyone, I'm a newbee to the Forum. I'm on my second TomTom (720) my daughter has ended with my first.
Last year I purchased United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland map (830.2305) and installed it on a memory card, the map works ok, but no speed cameras are showing, when I use the map on the internal memory (UK & Western Europe 710.1561) they appear on that. Is it possible to install cameras on the memory card, if so how?? Cheers, John. --------------------

Hi, and first of all "Welcome"!
You don't say whose speed camera data you are using.... The main two contenders are TomTom's own effort, and the alternative from PocketGPSWorld. Both of them use files which are copied into the named map folder ("Western Europe, "Great Britain" or whatever), the difference being, how they get there! With the PGPSW ones, you just install the relevant files into the folder using the normal Windows copy and paste routines in Explorer (or the Mac equivalent), but for TomTom's own ones, they have to be installed using their PC utility 'Home'. Now, I haven't heard of this happening with the speed cam files specifically, but we do know that Home has a tendency to mess up occasionally and put files which were meant for the SD card onto the internal memory instead (or as well!). So.... a partial answer is - yes you CAN install the camera files onto a map on the SD card, and Home SHOULD be able to. What we do next, depends on who's database you're using, but as far as I know, even if you've ended up with the TomTom-brand files in the wrong map folder, you can just copy them all over to the other one manually. Let us know if that makes sense and if you need more help working out the file names of what you need to move. (It's fairly obvious once you know, if you can browse the map folder and see all the filenames) |

Hi Andy, thanks for the welcome and the reply, I'm using the Tomtom camera database, if you could point me in the right direction, I'll have a go.
Cheers, John. --------------------

As I said, Home *should* add the cameras to the right map.
To get that to happen, you probably: 1. need to tell Home to use the SD card when it first boots up 2. have already switched maps, to be using the map you want to be installing to. If that still doesn't work, the files you want to copy are in the map folder ("Western_and_Central_Europe" or whatever yours is), and there are three of them for each country. For the UK mine are called: Safety_Cam_UK_Premium.ov2 Safety_Cam_UK_Premium.ov2.dct Safety_Cam_UK_PremiumOv2.ver The "premium" ones come with the LIVE services subscription. I guess if you have the ordinary ones the names will be pretty similar. Other countries may be called Safety_Cam_BE_Premium... (.ov2 and .ov2.dct and .ver) Safety_Cam_DE_Premium... Safety_Cam_NL_Premium... etc. etc. Or the more fun names like: Radar_ES_TomTom.... Autovelox_IT_TomTom... Blitzer_AT_TomTom... Flitspaal_NL_TomTom... Fartsboks_NO_TomTom... and my favourite: Fartkamera_SE_TomTom.... Basically look for anything that has an .ov2 extension that isn't a POI file you've added yourself and then copy all 3 files (.ov2 and .ov2.dct and .ver) with the same name into your preferred map. |
