Hello...

Back in November 2009 my 920T battery life went to more or less non existant, lasting 5-10 minutes when not powered.

So TomTom sent a box/RM bag etc to send it to their repair centre in Fife.

A week or so later I received a reconditioned unit, but within a few weeks again this had similar issues with the battery lasting 10 minutes maximum, so again it was sent to their repair centre in Fife.

This had similar battery issues, so they replaced the charger and another reconditioned unit was sent.

Upon getting this one back, this time the same unit as I had sent, I charged it for 2 hours or so on my TomTom Fast charger, then watched in sheer disbelief as the battery icon dwindled from full to empty (red) in less that 10 minutes! It appears this time the repair centre have only downgraded my Map/Firmware to approx v7 - nothing else appears to have been done (apart from try my patience)

So as you can imagine I am livid, I am a HGV driver and being without the TomTom is an inconveniance to say the least, I bought the TomTom to aid my daily life, not raise my blood pressure lol.gif .

Does anyone have any advice to give, or maybe a better route to take in expressing my complaint than via the more or less automated response I seem to get from the "Update my Question" section of the TomTom site.

Charlie

I read somewhere that contacting the Dutch customer service number produced a better response than the UK contact number, and there was no language problem. Whether this extends to the repair service or not, I'm not sure.

I had the same problem with my 930. Battery would last about 5mins. As mine is out of warranty I decided to replace it myself. I got a new battery for £8-18 off the internet and replaced it myself which was quite easy. And now like new.

I would be interested in hearing more about where you obtained the new battery and how you replaced it. My 720 is dead as a brick unless connected to the car charger, but I have heard horror stories about people replacing the battery themselves.

I would send it back to Tom Tom but because of where I live (we have an Apartado - i.e. P.O. Box Address) they will not accept it for repair.

Hi
I bought the battery from Here
These sell them also Visit My Website
But if you do a search on the web I am sure you can find one.

I got the Instructions from here

I didn't have to remove the connections like in the instructions.

Hope it is helpful.

Many thanks for the PM and the replys, appreciated.

After emailing the CEO I had a call from the Netherlands, short of it all is my 920 with non existant battery is being swapped for a brand new 930 which is being shipped the TomTom HQ courtesy of the Cheif Executive - which I am more than happy with.

Nice one.

Why oh why couldn't the UK Service Centres not just of fixed the device in the first place, a consumer shouldn't have to go to such lengths....

Thanks again!

Moved to the "Battery and Power" section.... wink.gif

Now you're all here, there are lots of posts in this section about battery replacement including some links for suppliers

And THIS is the best walk-through with pictures I've seen showing how to do it.

Andy, is there someone on this forum that can replace these batteries for a price, etc?

I'd also be interested in a battery replacement contact - still traumatised by last experience.

charlie: I am pleased you had such a good outcome. Going to the top often pays off.

re: replacement batteries: If you are looking for a contact address for replacing batteries, here is one that is quite local to me:

http://www.satnavservice.com/contact/

I am sure there are others, perhaps closer to you.

Not that I know of on the forum, but that link above has had good reports here.
(Do you remember a previous topic, where I mentioned it looked like a residential house and they needed to get their hedge trimmed? rolleyes.gif )

If I ever get round to doing my 720, and I don't break it, then I'd certainly be prepared to do it for other people.
But I couldn't afford proper insurance to cover myself for the unexpected, so it would have to be on that understanding!

Hmm, now you remind me, yes I do remember. However let me know how you get on with yours and I will be your first customer ( on your terms ). In fact if you want to try it on mine, let me know. If it goes pear shape, I'll get a new one. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I'm more than interested, not that I'm anticipating a battery change soon, but it's good to know that the support is there if you need it.

Thanks Mike, but the hard bit (for me) is getting round to buying the battery!
Once I've got it, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have any problem (famous last words!)
