One of the delights of my childhood was Spam fritters (coated in batter and deep-fried) with chips and tomato ketchup. How the world has changed.

how do you impose these bans? by isp, by ip address range? i mean..in this day and age, getting around those types of bans doesn't take a hacker so to actually succeed in banning somebody from a public forum like this, really isn't that easy. but don't get me wrong, i totally agree with what's being done here, users who spam should be banned, it can never be accepted.

I can ban by user name, email address and IP address or range. I usually only use the first two options, since the third one can also affect other users. But I would use this third option also if the opportunity called for it. --------------------

Thanks Bart. I remember the Monty Python SPAM sketch very well, but reckon it is a rather tenuous extension to then use the term spam for proliferate IT junk, don't you think? --------------------

I agree that it's a bit far-fetched, but hey, that's what it's called these days. There are other examples like that, like eg. how a 'bug' in software code ended up being called a 'bug'. This is also a nice story. (too bad it's not entirely correct

If someone (as many these days do) has several email accounts and access to different machines at different locations and with different IP addresses then imposing a ban on that person is impossible. Colin P.S. Not that I myself would indulge in such practice, of course!!! --------------------

This is true, it's not an easy task. But on the other hand, the mods and myself keep a very close eye on this board, and any banned member who returns and misbehaves again would be kicked out again pretty fast. Again en again. He'd probably soon get tired of trying. --------------------

true and as said before, it can never be accepted. whatever can be done has to be. just adding that as soon as you find a proxy..or one hundred..it's soon a mission impossible. lets just hope it doesn't come to that.
