Regarding the map share functionality, I wonder if this going to be a free for all, or will there (can there) be any sort of verification in place, to counteract genuine mistakes and plain malicious behaviour. From Gizmodo- QUOTE Even if you don't sync, you will automatically see changes you made yourself, but if you do sync, you can also get, in order of trustworthiness: changes verified by TomTom, changes to assorted POIs you subscribe to, changes from sources trusted by TomTom, changes reported by "many" and changes reported by "some."

I am waiting to add such features on GO 510/710. The hardware is just the same.
The only real difference is the FM transmitter (which can be bought for a few dollars). If anyone gets a full backup of a 720 unit, send it to me and everyone will enjoy it |

These new models sound interesting indeed. I wonder if we'll see a 920 though. My 700 is doing fine so I'm in no rush to upgrade anyway, but the new improvements sound good on paper.

You're right. One of the presentation slides includes 'Choose or upload different location icon', in the category 'Smart & Fun extras'

Both GO 520 and GO 720 will have TTS. TomTom managed to compress the text-to-speech voices to around 50MB per voice... But where does it actually SAY on their site that these models include text to speech? I would rather believe TomTom who told me that they wouldn't include this feature. TomToms own press release doesn't mention it and it's a pretty big feature not to even mention! Does this convince you? |

i'd recommend not setting too much hope to these dates as tomtom notoiously misses any promised date, as if it was almost intentional.
my biggest concern is..will they make these new features available on the current models (x10) or not?! |

If you were running the business, would you make these new features available as software/firmware downloads to existing models? No, I thought not.

We've heard that they WILL implement some of the new features onto the 'older' hardware. Of course, a while after they have become available via the new hardware, but still...
Basically, they plan on implementing all the new features that don't require any new hardware on all hardware platforms, right up to the Classic. Just don't expect it before the summer... --------------------

well colin i'd say that it would depend of my point of view. if i ran a business where i realised my customers in fact paid the bills at the end of the day, then yes, at least to some extent.. and as stated above, some of the new stuff will (eventulaly) find its way even to my old 910, which i have to say is somewhat surprising as tomtom in my mind hasn't been the most customer oriented company in the past.

I disagree. TomTom have ALWAYS made the vast majority of new features available on ALL their earlier models. The latest software and maps still work on the very first Go Classic (and PDA versions). If you bought a new map recently as a Navigator 5 user, you got a free upgrade to Navigator 6. Now, if you'd said their customer RELATIONS was awful, I'd have agreed wholeheartedly! |

Has the 720 got an SD card slot?
I currently have a one version 2, and I have western europe / australia / Usa & Canada version 6 maps I wondered if the maps i currently have on sd card will work on the new 720, or will they be out of date or not compatible for this new navcore 7 software. |

Hi Raylight, I'm hoping that someone will confirm with this for me, I don't think you can do it as the licence would be for your One Version 2. I think it would be fringing the copyrite law. But then I could be wrong Like the look of the 520 & 720 though Cheers --------------------

IF its going to be similar to the One XL, then it will be powered directly to the unit; not via the mount.

If it was a powered mount it would be more expensive, it would cost us more to replace if or when it went wrong. Personally I can't really see the advantage of a powered mount, as you have to remove it all from your windscreen and disconnect it anyway unless you want your car broken into. The only advantage would be if it was fitted permanently (and you had bulletproof windows).
I'll settle for a mount that doesn't fall off the windscreen when you brake anything else is a bonus. |
