DrPepper,
the microphone will be the same as the internal one used for hands free, which I think is supposed to have been improved. The quality of the recording won't be as good as the professional ones, but I would think that as long as you find a nice quite place, and don't have the microphone too close to you when you speak, then the quality should be at least as good as that of the ones people have done themselves on the computer. For some reason people think that the closer you hold the mic to your mouth the better the recording will be, this isn't true.

"yep but old tomtom one doesnt have handsfree..."
But you could still download a voice file made by someone else. You said in a post before that you didn't want to use your own voice anyway. Tomtom can't stop people sharing voice files of their own voices.
I'm sure that once the new go's are out, then there will be at least some people that post them somewhere. Would be good to get ones with more regional accents instead of just the box standard english ones. For example: Scottish, Welsh, Geordie, Scouse etc.

The inbuilt voice record feature is a nice addition, but we've always been able to record our own navigation voice files.
The best description of the process I've seen is on Graeme Lucas' Website

That's true, but creating the audio files, converting them to the correct type of file and packaging them correctly took a bit of work. I'm not saying that the new feature is better, the sound quality might not be as good, but for convenience and speed this is a better way especially for new users.
Ideally someone would write a piece of software that mimicked Tomtom's approach, but on the computer so that people could take advantage of better microphones and recording software. If Tomtom also developed this software for the pc then people who own the older models without the mics could also take advantage of it. Maybe a third party developer will try it?

I really love Tomtom.

they've really fixed everything i wanted them to do.

maybe now it's time to buy the next model to support tomtom in their continued development...
the 520 looks damn nice because it's flat and not a budget version like the ONE.

plus the tought of a li-po battery is exciting.. at last!!

Food or tomtom? I'll have tomtom.

Any chance we will see these upgrades make it over for those of us who use the PDA version?

Probably...
Navcore 7 has already been released for the ONE XL and now the ONE v2, so it sems they are working backwards through the models. There ARE a few bits missing though (custom cursors, disable auto zoom etc.)

But in castrated form. We still don't know how badly castrated for Classics, but if it's any more castrated than on the One, I will have to ask "is it worth it?", especially if it breaks third party stuff.

Mike,
First off all in your next post try unlocking the caps-lock, it looks less screamy.

The Navcore 7 is distibuted by TomTom through Home. So you'll just have to wait till it is offered to you through Home.
They started with the newest devices (OneXL, One 3rd edition) and will continue top down, till eventually your TomTom Clasic will be served.
How long this will take depends, as far as I understand, for a great deal on how many problems they encouter in the new Navcore version on the old devices.

So be patient, it will all come to you in due time

Welcome, Amicos! clapping.gif

This topic is quite old now, though...
Latest models have been using the newer v8 software for a few months now, and it is in the process of being made available for others (it keeps being offered and then withdrawn again!)

There are plenty of details about v8 around the site, here are some that might interest you:

New TomTom flagship range available in UK

NavCore 8 updates TomTom-devices

NavCore 8 now also for 'older' devices

Hi Colin...
Welcome to these forums.
However, you've got me a bit concerned...
TomTom operating software has always been distributed free to owners of their hardware, but as far as I know TT Navigator 5 and 6 were commercial products, so I assume Navigator 7 is too.

Even if it *is* OK to disassemble and distribute the software, I don't see any way you can buy legal maps for it.

Please correct me and put my mind at rest.

Until then or I until I can discuss this with the site admin, I'll temporarily remove the link.
